About these prices

From ElCom, the Swiss Federal Electricity Commission. Every grid operator reports its tariffs for the coming year to ElCom, which publishes them at the end of August; they apply from 1 January. MEconomy shows each operator’s standard product for ElCom’s household profiles, per municipality.
No. ElCom publishes prices without VAT, and so does this page. Your bill adds VAT on top.
Not as a household. Consumers using less than 100’000 kWh (100 MWh) a year are supplied by the grid operator where they live. You can choose among your operator’s products, for example a cheaper or a greener one.
Energy is the electricity itself. Grid use pays for the power lines. Local fees and levies go to the municipality and canton. The federal grid surcharge funds renewable energy and is the same everywhere. Metering covers the electricity meter.
ElCom compares prices with 8 typical households, from the smallest, ‘Small flat’ (H1, 1’600 kWh a year), to the largest, ‘House, electric heating’ (H6, 25’000 kWh a year). Pick the one closest to yours. ‘5-room flat’ (H4, 4’500 kWh a year) is ElCom’s reference household.
Your consumption differs from the profile’s. Fixed monthly fees, which ElCom spreads over the profile’s consumption, weigh more per kWh if you use less, and day and night rates differ. The profile price is the fair way to compare municipalities.

Yearly amounts are the price times the household profile’s consumption. Where a municipality has more than one operator, each is listed; ElCom’s “cheapest product” is shown when an operator offers one below its standard product.
